Apparently I've finally made it to that point in my trip that I knew would eventually occur, the point at which I stop posting every day. Sorry Mom. Anway, yesterday was the first day of classes. I had Biotechnology and Society right away in the morning, and we took a walk to a local cemetery to talk about the study of biology and what it means to be living. It was an interesting talk and walk. The cemetery is quite beautiful, old, and full. Now, those who wish to have their loved ones placed there can only bury an urn, and even it must be removed after 70 years. Seems rather bizarre, doesn't it?
After class, I went on a shopping expedition; I had previously searched and mapped out some of the best charity shops (thrift shops) in the area. Since I live in a rather posh neighborhood of London, the charity shops have an excellent selection and therefore are actually quite pricey. The first two I checked out were nice, but nothing caught my eye. The third shop was pretty small and looked more like a traditional thrift shop, but had AMAZING deals. I bought a pair of Prada boots for £9, which is roughly $18!!
Today, I didn't have any classes, so I went to the local college, Imperial, to check out a 'Freshers Fair', or activities fair. It's cool because the college lets Lawrence students use their facilities and join their clubs after we purchase an ID card from them, which LU reimburses. Anyway, the fair was massive and there were so many cool groups. I found two film clubs, as well as the local Amnesty International Chapter.
Today was also the first theatre trip; we watched Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, and then we saw the show. Both were very good, and it was fun going to a show, as I've never really gone to many. The show was in Picadilly Circus, which is sort of tourist central, so we walked around a bit after the show and almost had to bus hop home as the tube wasn't working properly.
